The Jay Peak 25KM trail race was awesome. They changed up the course this year. There was some humbling elevation – I could feel my heart beating in my chest. The pack of 5 runners that I was running with (15-20th place overall) got 1.2 miles off course, which took us up to the top of a peak. Luckily, we found our way back to the course down a double black diamond ski run. Good thing we had a seasoned Scottish runner in our pack. He showed me an awesome technique when running down steep hills/mountains. He asked me, “Ever see a mountain goat run down a mountain?”. We were a little deflated but all in all an amazing race! I did witness a runner who broke his fibula on Timbuktu ski run, I could hear the sound and it was nasty. We all stopped to help. Had to dial 911 as there was no easy way to get there, but that was the race protocol.
